I cannot see my child's grades or attendance

First make sure the link request was accepted — before that you will see no data at all.

If they are linked and it is still empty, the student has probably not attended lessons or taken assessments yet, so there is nothing to show.

You can print a full report card from the child's page, with exam, homework and attendance percentages per course.
